Important Electrical Tools -
Names with pictures and uses
In this article we will see electrical tools used by electrician to perform electrical work. Go through the pictures to recognize electrical tools. you will find name of tool and its uses, mentioned below each picture.
To complete an electrical work we need some collection of
basic hand tools , special tools and measuring instruments. By use of
electrical tools we can complete our electrical task easily with less effort
and time.
Wire crimper – Joining 2 pieces of metal or other ductile
material ( usually a wire and a metal plate) by deforming one both of them to
hold the other.
Wire stripper – for removing an insulation from conductor,
without losing conductor core. Used to remove insulation of medium sized wires
ranging from gauge #10 to gauge #16.
Nose pliers – in abnormal condition , we use this tool to cut
a wire.
Cutting pliers – It is used to cut a wire.
Channel Lock Pliers – are a type of slip joint plier. They have serrajaws generally set 45 to 60 degrees from the handle.
Side cutter – For cutting wires. Used for cutting fine,
medium and big wires and cables.
Screwdrivers – To tightening a screw. Multi screwdriver set
is used to tight a shape of star, plus, minus, hexagon or any other type of
screw. They comes in various sizes and shapes. These tools are made of steel
hardened and tempered at the tip used to loosen or tighten screws with slotted
head.
Standard/ flat screw driver – The blade tip is wedged-shaped
and resembles a negative (-) sign. this is used to drive a single slot head.
Phillips screw driver – this has a cross tip resembling a
positive (+) sign. This is used to drive screws with cross slot head.
Stubby screw driver – it comes either in standard or Phillip’s
screw driver with short shank or blade and a shorted handle used to turn screws
in tight space where a standard screw driver cannot be used.
Allen Screw Driver/ Wrench – This could be in the shape of a
screw driver or a wrench. Its function to drive screw with hexagonal slot head.
Split level – To check a level of surface. It is device for
establishing a horizontal plane. It consists of a small glass tube containing
alcohol or similar liquid and an air bubble; the tube is sealed and fixed
horizontally in a wooden or metallic block or frame with a smoother lower
surface.
Adjustable Spanner – We can use this as spanner.
Electrical Tool Box – to keep all the electrician tools in
an one place.
Portable electric drill – it is a small drilling machine
with a chuck capacity of ¼’ to 3/8’. It is used for making holes on metal
sheets and concrete walls.
Insulation tapes – A material of electrical tapes in a
variety of colors are used for marking wires and for attaching cables to a
fish tape. Electrical tape is a type of pressure-sensitive tape used to
insulate electrical wires and other materials that conduct electricity.
Fish Tape – It is a tool used by electricians to route new
wiring through walls and electrical conduit. Made of a narrow band of spring
steel, by careful manipulation, the tape can be guided through confined spaces
such as wall cavities.
Tool belt – To keep frequently used tools within easy reach.
Push Pull Rule – It is a measuring tape that coils into a
compact case.
Electrical Knife – To cut a cable or in the cable
termination process use.
Hammers – Claw hammer, Mallet (rubber head), ballpeen
hammer. These tools are used in driving or pounding and pulling out nails. They
are made of hard steel, wood, plastic or rubber.
Wire puller – Wire puller is very useful for installing cables in finished wall cavities and for pulling wires through conduit.
Flash light – It is a battery operated portable light.
Multi meter – To measure AC/DC voltage, AC/DC Current,
resistance, capacitance, frequency & duty cycle. It is also called AVO
meter (A-ampere, V-volts, O-ohm).
Voltage tester – It is a diagnostic tool which is used to test a voltage of circuit.
Soldering gun – is an approximately pistol-shaped,
electrically powered tool for soldering metals using tin based solder to
achieve a strong mechanical bond with good electrical contact.
Tick tracer – detects the presence of voltage in a wire or
piece of equipment without actually making direct contact with the conductor or
energized part.
SAFETY FIRST !!
- Use the right tool for the right job.
- Don’t play while you work on electric circuits.
